Workshops at Flickerfest 2006
Two exciting workshops are slated for this year's Flickerfest International Short Film festival - one featuring the renowned international animator Phil Mulloy, and the other a documentary workshop with controversial documentary maker Wayne Coles-Janess. Flickerfest is delighted to give filmmakers the opportunity to have an insight into the minds of two very untraditional artists.
Documentary
This workshop is with highly-esteemed documentary director Wayne Coles-Janess, who will take you on a journey through his body of work from idea to image to the completed project. His award winning doco In The Shadow of the Palms won the IF Independent Spirit Prize recently and is a remarkable documentary about the Iraq war.
Animation
Multi award-winning UK animator Phil Mulloy, renowned internationally for his provocative, perceptive, grotesque and squirmingly funny take on human nature, gives an animation workshop designed to delight and provoke its participants. Be prepared to travel to the outer reaches of an animator's mind with the Zogs and a multitude of other characters.

Phil Mulloy Program (highlights)
December 5, 2005
Multi-award-winning UK animator Phil Mulloy is renowned internationally for his provocative brush and ink animations. His work comments on human nature and challenges contemporary values, standing as a model of satiric grotesque unparalleled in British animation. Flickerfest's Phil Mulloy program will span the depth and breadth of his work. Tributes to Mulloy have been seen at this year's Tampere Film Festival in Finland, at Clermont-Ferrand in France and Comedia in North America.
"It's a rare artist who can profoundly analyse the hopes, fears and anxieties of a civilisation in crisis, but Phil Mulloy has achieved this with his brilliantly subversive satire. A prescient and viscerally emotional film, unflinching in its examination of the more sinister motivations of our times." Tampere Festival Jury (on Intolerance: The Trilogy) [more]
