OSCAR® ELIGIBLE BEST SHORT FILMS NAMED AT CLOSING OF FLICKERFEST - AUSTRALIA'S THE WAY BACK WINS A TRIFECTA

In the AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION, THE WAY BACK, produced by Lizette Atkins and directed by Samuel McGeorge, took out a trifecta winning BEST AUSTRALIAN SHORT FILM; a Commendation for Acting for Norman Yemm and cinematographer Michael Williams winning the Kodak Entertainment Imaging Award for Best Cinematography in an Australian Short Film.

In the INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION the Grolsch Award for Best Film was presented to Claudio Buschel for her short GOLDEN GATE with the Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation being presented to Norway's ARIA. The National Geographic Award for Best Documentary was awarded to Sweden's MULISHANI, MULISHANI and the Encore Special Jury Prize awarded to MESKA SPRAWA (A Man Thing).

Announced as the most successful Flickerfest to date, Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd thanked audiences for their capacity attendance with apologies to those turned away. "Flickerfest was bigger and better this year" she said - "With capacity audiences every night and a real summer festival feel - it all bodes well for an even bigger 2004!"
