Australia's only Academy Awards® accredited International Short Film Festival, Flickerfest will open with a screening of a selection of films in competition at 9.00pm to be followed by a performance by Bondi-based band WAIKIKI and party on the famous Bondi Pavilion balcony.
The festival will run from 4th-12th January with International and Australian films screening in competition. Further to the films in competition, Flickerfest 2003 has several Special Programs including the animation program The Bill & Don Show: Slightly Bent; Sexy British Shorts; the Brazilian Shorts Showcase and a special program of Oscar® nominated shorts, in recognition of Flickerfest's accreditation as an Oscar® Festival from 2003.
As well as John Seale and juror Chris Haywood, other confirmed attendees include Flickerfest juror and acclaimed actor Nicholas Hope, director/producer Rebel Penfold-Russell, actress Claudia Karvan, actor Peter Fenton, actor Salvatore Coco, television personality Angela Bishop, filmmaker/musician Andrew Lancaster, and the British Consul General Peter Beckingham.
Other invitees include festival patrons Gillian Armstrong, David Wenham and Jane Campion as well as Judy Davis, Ben Lee, Bryan Brown, previous Flickerfest winner Rachel Ward, Rachel Griffiths, Collette Dinnigan, Akira Isogawa, Pia Miranda, Kick Gurry, Miranda Otto, Joel Edgerton and Dave McCormack.
In its twelfth year, Flickerfest will once again bring the best of the world's short films to Bondi Pavilion from January 4 -12. The festival will then commence a national tour encompassing the key regional centres and all capital cities from January to March 2003. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently accredited the 2003 Flickerfest to its Short Films Award Festival List, making it the only short film festival in Australia to be recognised by Oscar®.
